ICEフリーダイビングという行為は自然との深いつながりを求める冒険的な精神を表している。
氷の下に潜るという人間の身体能力の限界に挑戦することで、自然の厳しさや生命の脆さ、儚さを感じているのかもしれない。

厳しさの一方、流氷の下には光と影が織りなす美しい情景が拡がっている。

氷の隙間からの光を受け泳ぐ姿は、まるで雲の中を飛んでいるような趣がある。そこには静寂と幻想的な美しさが共存しており、まるで詩のような魅力を感じる。

流氷を身ひとつで水中から観察する行為は、自然の偉大さと自己との調和を見つけるための内省的な活動でもあり、自然への畏敬の念や共感を育む手段となるだろう。

『When the drift ice becomes clouds』

Ice freediving reflects an ambitious spirit, seeking a deep connection with nature. By diving under the ice on a single breath and pushing one’s physical limits, one may experience the harshness of nature and the fragility and transience of life.

Amidst the severity, lies a simple yet beautiful play of light and shadow.

The sun seeping through the ice ceiling transforms the underwater to a quiet and dreamy world. When freedivers swim through, it almost looks as if they are flying through the clouds.

I believe that diving under the frozen water on a single breath, is not only an adventurous activity, but a reflective practice to find harmony with nature and oneself, and cultivate a sense of reverence and empathy towards nature.

野口智弘
1983年東京生まれ。海と人とのつながりを表現し続ける写真家。
各地の海を素潜りで潜り続けながら撮影を行う。
競技者として60m超えの潜水記録を持つかたわら2013年より冬の知床の海での流氷フリーダイビングを始めたメンバーの1人。
近年はイソマグロ100キロを素潜りで獲るドキュメンタリー映画『Mission100』にも参加している。
代表作に「Water Being」「PRESS」がある。

企画：高木唯
1985年斜里町ウトロ出身。元AIDAフリーダイビングワールドチャンピオンシップス日本代表。
競技引退後はマリンコーディネーターとして映画等の撮影に関わる。ウトロの流氷フリーダイビングイベント「ICE CUP」を主催。現在は斜里町へ戻り一般社団法人知床しゃりに勤務。地域おこし協力隊としても活動中。
